Friendly Guiding and Instruction in the North West Highlands

Our Aim

Our goal is to provide world class instruction and experiences to clients from every corner of society.

About Us

Climb Torridon started from humble beginnings in 2021. Having been inspired by the exceptional mountaineering and climbing in North West Scotland over many years, we decided that we wanted to introduce more people to this fantastically unique area. So in 2020, with long and experienced careers in the outdoor industry, mountaineering and business we started to bring Climb Torridon to life. We have since guided people from all walks of life; of different ages, abilities and backgrounds in the mountaineers paradise of the North West Highlands. Our journey has only just begun and we continue to grow as we head through this exciting adventure, we hope you will join us.

Our Location

Map showing Wester Ross and Skye in the highlands

Climb Torridon is located in Gairloch, the heart of Wester Ross, in the North West Highlands of Scotland. It is home to some of the most exceptional mountaineering and climbing in the UK. The variety here is difficult to fully visualise, from sport climbing and single pitch crags through to multi pitch winter climbs on imposing mountain routes and absolutely everything in between. Yet, this area is blissfully quiet. It is common to go to a crag and be the only people there, even in the peak season. However, since Wester Ross has one of the lowest population densities in Europe, with just 1.6 people per km2 it’s easy to understand how it remains so peaceful.

Our Ethos

We have three simple principles that guide us in what we do. These permeate throughout our full company structure; from our relationships with our customers, working with local people, partners and services and into our future plans and growth.

  • Caring for the environment – We spend so much of our working and personal lives in the outdoor environment. Therefore, we know how extremely important it is to look after it. We make every effort to ensure we do our part in protecting our natural world.
  • Caring for people – We treat all our customers as individuals, with individual goals, needs and achievements. We also know our local partners and service providers are run by a number of individual people too. We do our very best to make sure all the people we work both for and with are treated with the care and respect we value so highly.
  • Connecting people with the environment – We believe the outdoor environment is extremely important for physical health as well as mental health and wellbeing. We also believe the way people engage with the outdoors is extremely important for the environment. Therefore, we try to connect the two to create a positive outcome for both.
  • Professional, Local, Qualified Guides – by using only local guides you support local communities.
  • Small groups – by offering small, open group and private courses we can offer our services to more people and create better comradery while giving our customers total flexibility and personalised service.
  • Fair Prices – by using a local company you get fairer prices.

Sustainability

As mountain guides the outdoor environment is intrinsic to everything we do. It is essential that we understand our responsibility to protect and care for it. We practise simple, everyday techniques on the hill, e.g. leaving no trace of our days in the mountains and utilising reusable, plastic free packaging for our sandwiches! As well as having sustainable company wide policies in place to reduce our carbon footprint and repair and maintain equipment effectively. We also encourage our clients to embrace ‘slow travel’, this is the practice of fully engaging in one area at a time. But these steps are never enough and we frequently review our own sustainability policies to continually identify ways we can improve.

Community and Charity

Community and charity is extremely important to us. We are committed to raising awareness of causes close to our own hearts. We are delighted to be Patrons of Climbers Against Cancer (CAC). This wonderful non profit organisation increases awareness of cancer throughout the climbing community. All of its proceeds are donated directly to cancer research facilities throughout the world. One way in which we support CAC is to donate 1% of all our sales directly to them and we encourage our customers to match our donation if they can.

  • Our Reputation – We have a growing list of happy clients who recommend us. This is just some of the lovely feedback we have received:
    • ‘I absolutely loved it, perfect level of support/guidance from you and your knowledge of the ridge definitely put me at complete ease.’ – Katie, July 2022
    • ‘Thank you so much for an epic week, had such a great time and hopefully see you again in the not so distant future!!’ – Tara, September 2022
    • ‘The trip was a joy from beginning to end! Ollie is a brilliant guide, full of knowledge and experience and was so encouraging through the entire course. We did lots of variations on scrambles in the Torridon area and everyone had a great time!’ – Kat, September 2022
    • ‘I would highly recommend Climb Torridon! Me and my partner did the Winter Mountaineering course with Oli and he was great. The course was tailored to our needs as we knew some of the rope work already and some of the basic winter skills. Oli gave us some more in depth knowledge on safety in the mountains including weather and avalanches. He took us to some amazing mountains in Torridon and was constantly engaging in showing us new winter mountaineering techniques and also loads of local knowledge for when we plan to come up next time!!’ – James, October 2022
    • ‘Ollie is a fantastic guide and he knows the Cuillins so well that he is able to adapt standard routes to adjust for the weather or a little nervousness of the client. He helped me to achieve things that I am still surprised I managed. He is patient and supportive.’ – Anne Marie, May 2023
    • ‘What can I say, walking with Ollie was such a great experience. His knowledge and experience was exceptional. I was particularly pleased how he listened to our needs when we were on the ridge. This was particularly important when talking to my 16 year old son. He made him feel that he had achieved something really special even if we did not complete the full ridge.’ – Andrew, July 2023
  • We Care – We care deeply about our clients, guides, environment and community. We hope you can see this shining through everything we do.

See you on a mountain soon,

Ollie, Scarlet & the Climb Torridon Team
