Skye Cuillin Munros Course

(Climb 11 Munros Over 4 Days)

The Skye Cuillin Munros – Tackle the Eleven Munros on the Black Cuillin

Our four day Skye Cuillin Munros Course provides a fantastic opportunity to complete all of the Munros on The Skye Cuillin Ridge. The Skye Cuillin Ridge contains 11 separate Munros, they are; Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor, Sgurr Alasdair, Sgurr Mhic Choinnich, The Inaccessible Pinnacle (The In Pinn), Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr a’Ghreadaidh, Sgurr a’Mhadaidh, Sgurr nan Gillean, Am Bastier and Bruach na Frithe.

Itinerary of The Skye Cuillin Munros Course

The itinerary for the course will be decided inline with the weather conditions. However, an example of the way we may structure the course is detailed below:

Day One: Sgurr nan Eag, Sgurr Dubh Mor & Sgurr Alasdair

The day will begin in Glen Brittle. Following a mixture of paths and scree we will head towards the highest of the Great Cuillin Coires; Coire a’ Ghrunnda. From Coire a’ Ghrunnda we will ascend higher to gain access to The Skye Cuillin Ridge itself. Now on the ridge we take an “out and back” route to our first Skye Cuillin Munro summit; Sgurr nan Eag. Once the summit has been completed the scrambling will begin! To tackle the formidable Sgurr Dubh Mor we must first scramble down to the Bealach a Garbh-choire. Once here, we can pick our way up to the Sgurr Dubh Mor summit, our second Skye munro. This narrow summit rewards us with some of the best views of the Cuillin Ridge. Our third and final summit for the day requires us to scramble down and around the coire until we reach Sgurr Alasdair. After successfully completing all three Munros a final short section of scrambling takes us to The Great Stone Shoot. Once here, we will make our way back down to Glen Brittle for a well earned rest.

Day Two: Sgurr Mhic Choinnich & The In Pinn

Our goal for day two will be to complete the famous Inaccessible Pinnacle, commonly known as The In Pinn. The In Pinn needs little introduction as it is one of the most popular aims for many mountaineers. We will also tackle its fantastic, if lesser known, neighbour Sgurr Mhic Choinnich. We will be starting the day at the Mountain Rescue Hut in Glenbrittle. Whereby, we head up the western spur of Sgurr Dearg. Climbing this spur will provide us with an excellent warm up to get us ready for The In Pinn itself. Due to the complexity of the climb we will be treating the In Pinn with the level of respect it needs. Therefore, we will guide it as a rock climb to ensure you can relish the experience fully. Once successfully at the top we will abseil off The In Pinn, back down to the summit of Sgurr Dearg. With Munro number four complete, we will head towards Sgurr Mhic Choinnich. Starting with a descent to The Bealach Coire Lagan, we will then follow easier terrain to reach the foot of our next Munro. We will follow a narrow and exposed ridge to the summit, achieving our goal for the day. We will then use the narrow and exposed ridge on our return to the bealach. Our day will be complete with a descent down the An Stac Screes and out of Coire Lagan.

Day Three: Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr a’Ghreadaidh & Sgurr a’Mhadaidh

The third day of our Skye Cuillin Munros course will see us tackle the Munros of Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr a’Ghreadaidh and Sgurr a’Mhadaidh. Today we will start at The Glenbrittle Youth Hostel and will begin the day by heading up next to a stream which flows out of Coire a’Ghreadaidh. Leaving the main path behind us, we will head into Coire an Eich. From here, we will make our way over the scree to the summit of Sgurr na Banachdich, our first of the day. Following a scramble down to the col, we continue over Thormaid and around its ‘Teeth’. Our next goal is the summit of our second Munro of the day, Sgurr a’Ghreadaidh. To reach this peak we will tackle our most challenging section of today’s route, along the south ridge of Sgurr a’Ghreadaid. Once this Munro is complete we will enjoy more scrambling until we reach a narrow notch in the ridge called An Dorus. From here we head to Sgurr a’Mhadaidh, our final Munro for today. We then head back to An Dorus before following a track back to The Glenbrittle Youth Hostel.

Day Four: Sgurr nan Gillean, Am Bastier & Bruach na Frithe

Today we will start at Sligachan and our goal is to complete our final Munros, these three Munros are collectively known as The Northern Peaks. We will cross the Alt Dearg Mor and make our way to the south east ridge of Sgurr nan Gillean. We will scramble along this ridge until we gain the ‘Table Top’ summit of today’s first Munro, Sgurr nan Gillean. The descent from here is complex and involves a mixture of scrambling and an abseil to reach the bealach below. Once we have gained the bealach we will tackle the infamous “Bad Step” before we reach the formidable summit of Am Bastier. Bruach na Frithe is now our only remaining Munro. We will first descend back to the bealach. A short and easy ascent will take us to the top of this final Munro. With all 11 of The Skye Cuillin Munros complete, all that remains is to to descend Coire a’ Bhastier and head back to Sligachan.

Who is Our Skye Cuillin Munros Course For?

A Skye Cuillin Munros Course is perfect for anyone wishing to complete all the Munros on The Skye Cuillin Ridge. Whether you are looking for an excellent mountaineering challenge or you are trying to complete the 282 Munros in Scotland. Many of our customers are already experienced hillwalkers. Please do remember this course is a demanding, physical challenge. You should expect to be out in the mountains for approximately 6-9 hours each day. The area is also known for its incredible and sustained scrambling. Therefore, a good head for heights and some experience of scrambling is recommended. However, many of our clients consider themselves more a hill walker than a scrambler or climber.

Private and Open Courses Available

We offer our Skye Cuillin Munros Course as an open course, whereby you can book on to a set date and will be joined by one other person. This option is highly popular as it spreads the cost between two people but still keeps a safe and sensible ratio of 2 clients to 1 guide.

Alternatively, we also offer this course on a private basis. This is the perfect choice for two people booking together. It is also an option for individuals who would prefer to be guided on a 1:1 basis. Additionally, booking a private course gives you the flexibility to pick a date to suit you. However, please be aware our guides get fully booked very, very early (often 6 months in advance), so please book early if you need the course on a specific date.
